Exeter Photograper – Case Study: A Fresh New Look for Thatch Cover, Exeter
Client: Thatch Cover
Industry: Specialist Insurance
Location: Sowton, Exeter
Services Provided: Team headshots, branding photography, candid office imagery
Shoot Duration: Half-day on location
The Challenge
Thatch Cover, a specialist thatch insurance provider based in Exeter’s Sowton area, approached me while preparing to rebrand and relaunch their website. They wanted to move away from the traditional, stuffy image often associated with insurance, instead aiming for something friendly, confident, and relatable, while still communicating trust and expertise.
Their vision was clear:
“Approachable but on point – we need to look capable, composed, not stuffy.”
With a growing team, a loyal client base, and a strong local presence, it was essential that their new imagery reflected the real people behind the brand, including Clyde the Portuguese Water Dog, who is very much part of the office.
Why Photography Mattered
This wasn’t just about updating headshots – it was a chance to reintroduce the company online, visually reflecting the values they live by day-to-day:
Personable customer service
A tight-knit, knowledgeable team
A commitment to clarity and transparency
As their website designer explained, the new brand needed imagery that was clean and web-ready, with room for text overlays and consistent lighting. The team also wanted photos that felt authentic – nothing cheesy or overly staged – so potential clients could see the people they’d actually be dealing with.
The Shoot
We planned a half-day shoot at their Exeter office, which gave us time to cover:
Studio-style headshots (with a white backdrop for consistency across the site)
Candid workplace shots, capturing the day-to-day feel of the office
Team photos, showing the human side of the brand
And some relaxed outdoor portraits
We started indoors, making use of their open-plan office space to photograph the team at work – answering calls, chatting between desks, and collaborating naturally. Clyde the dog even made a few cameos, adding warmth and character to the final set.
Once we’d finished the headshots and interior images, we stepped outside to take advantage of the greenery nearby. These outdoor portraits provided a welcome contrast to the studio images – natural, calm, and grounded.
The Result
The final image set delivered a full suite of branding assets ready for immediate use across:
Their new website
Social media profiles
Marketing materials, like brochures and staff bios
Future press and PR opportunities
Images were supplied in high-resolution and web-optimised formats, giving their designer maximum flexibility to drop them straight into page layouts.
Client Feedback
“Thank you again for making the photoshoot fun – we’re really pleased with the results.
The photos look great. Thank you so much, it’s brilliant.”
