Exeter Chamber runs a host of events – from round tables to parties. Summer bash, anyone? Their regular meetups include Coffee in the City  (every other Wednesday from 8:30 – 9:30) and a monthly Thirsty Thursday.

There are 3 types of membership available. The cheapest option is £120 per year.

This is one of the most active groups in Exeter. Beyond events, the Chamber is busy in the campaigning space and runs initiatives related to transport, STEMM and more. Membership is for a business, so if you do join and have colleagues they can come along too.

What’s the set up? 

The focus of Your Partnerships is on events, both on and offline. You’ll need to travel further afield for some of their meet-ups but there are plenty of regular events nearby, as well as virtual calendar.

Your Partnerships recently launched a Women-only group with monthly meet-ups in Exeter, Plymouth, and Cornwall. These lunches are open to YP members and non-members to bring ambitious women together to help grow your network in a relaxed, light-hearted environment. We host a monthly lunch at Quayside Distillery in Exeter. We chat over a delicious two-course meal and get a talk from the venue's gin distiller about how they make their artisan gin and they even offer a tasting session of their different gin flavourings.

How much does it cost?

It is £12.50 + VAT per month to attend online meetings only. To access face-to-face events £25 + VAT per month.

The Women-only group lunches are £30 for YP members and non-members.

Anything else I should know? 

Your Partnerships certainly offer variety when it comes to events. Keep your eyes out for their Net-walking at Haldon Hill, if you fancy some fresh air while mingling.

Six Degrees

What’s the set up? 

Six Degrees is a membership group with regular (currently fortnightly) meetups and lots of ad hoc events in between. Sea swim, anyone?

How much does it cost?

Membership is £25 pm, and events are charged on top with discounted prices for Six Degree Members.

Anything else I should know? 

Six Degrees are, unsurprisingly, popular with the Exeter female business community. They meet up at some of the coolest venues in the city and have a range of inspirational women speakers. Their Membership programme was only recently launched, so watch this space for how it evolves.

The Business Network Exeter

Who is it for? 

Open to anyone, without a one person per profession limit, this group generally attracts Directors, Owners and Business Partners.

What’s the set up? 

There is a combination of online and offline events that take place on a monthly basis. The in-person events are a seminar followed by a lunch.

How much does it cost?

There is an annual membership fee and then a cost per lunch of £37. Seminars and online events are included in the membership price.

Anything else I should know? 

Launched in Exeter 30 years ago, this network operates across the country and membership gives access to the national database. Lunches are held at Sandy Park and Exeter Racecourse, and with 2 courses and coffee to be consumed there’s plenty of time to forge meaningful connections.

Anything else I should know? 

The structured format of Sterling’s meetings might not be for everyone but they certainly seem to produce results, with the organisation claiming to have the highest renewal rates around. Virtual networking has tailed off as COVID restrictions ended and a lot of people find face to face networking the better option, but to be able to attend an early morning meeting from the comfort of your own home is certainly convenient.

“Fore” Business

The group is hosted at Teign Valley Golf Club. Meetings take place monthly on Thursdays, at 8.45 am.

How much does it cost?

The joining fee and member’s pack is £159 + VAT; after that standard membership is £69 pm upwards depending on your level.

Anything else I should know? 

Definitely not “Fore” anyone who can’t make their way comfortably around the course but a great option if you’re looking to combine introductions with exercise. In 2022 Fore is holding a Bucket List competition with the opportunity to play at courses across the country.

Jelly SW

Jelly co-working days take place monthly at The Generator on the Quay. They also run events in Plymouth, Crediton, Cullompton and more, so there are plenty of options if you’d like to attend more regularly.

How much does it cost?

Absolutely nothing! The ethos of Jelly is to be accessible to all so the venue and wifi are provided free of charge, with small charges made for food and drink.

Anything else I should know? 

The emphasis here is on co-working, so if you’re in the market for structured networking, this probably isn’t the group for you. But Jelly is very welcoming and if you’re fed up of beavering away at home, then definitely grab your laptop and head on down. You never know who you might meet.

Venaspace – The Rabbit Hole

This isn’t a networking group, although you’ll likely see familiar faces if you attend regularly. It’s very popular, so definitely one to go along to if you’re new on the Exeter business scene.

So how do you meet new people and encourage more business without attending the cringeworthy networking events of old? By notworking.

Mixing business and pleasure is something we’ve always done as a company, and it’s worked really bloody well for us. So, we thought we’d take the plunge and create a networking event that we’d want to go to.

With a strict no pitching rule, a decent venue and the right kind of people, the Notworking Networking Club was born. From a standing start and minimal promotion, over 100 Exeter business people with a similar mindset joined the inaugural event in November 2018. The appetite to notwork has grown from there and it’s fair to say, a movement has begun.

If like us, you enjoy some proper Devon hospitality amid like-minded professionals, come and make new friends in the knowledge that the business will come.

The events attract business people across from Devon, no membership required. 

What’s the set-up?

This is one of the wackiest groups out there. Previous events have included haunted night walks on Dartmoor and with games, psychics and shoulder massages amongst keynote speakers, you’re in for a wild ride.

Tickets are around £18.50, depending on the event. And usually include your first drink and nibbles.

Business@Breakfast is non-profit making, networking and referral group where local business people work together to help each other’s businesses grow and succeed.

The emphasis of the group is on getting to know and understand each other’s business and passing business referrals to each other. This can be an excellent way of receiving strong referrals, and with all the other benefits that networking provides, we offer a rewarding experience to members.

Annual membership is an upfront fee of £150 per member or £250 for larger organisations.  Business@Breakfast’s charity of the year receives £50.00 from each member.  There is a charge of £10 (for members) and £15 (for non-members) for each breakfast meeting.

The Exeter and East Devon branches amalgamated during COVID and so far have stayed joined up. Usually, there are 3 separate networking groups: Exeter, East Devon and Mid-Devon, with members given the chance to attend meetups across all branches.

LBL holds a wide variety of events from walks to wine tasting. Not all of the members are business people, so many of the events have a social focus. 

But there is a varied series of online meetings: business networking, business talks/workshops, social events and wellbeing talks. Business Networking is generally on the 3rd Monday of the month. 

How much does it cost?

Business membership costs £24 per annum. 

Anything else I should know? 

Members really feel a part of the community when joining Lyme Bay Ladies. They have a buzzing Facebook page, with many women saying that the group is an integral part of their daily life!

The network was set up by Gilbert Stephens in 2010 to provide the firm’s younger members to build their own network of contacts in the Exeter area.
